Happy Memorial Day from KWVH.
Memorial Day Weekend was a great one in the Wimberley Valley! Here's hoping you made it out to our town's festivities, whether it was the annual 4H Rodeo or the Wimberley Strong concert at Blue Hole Featuring Gary P. Nunn.
We hope you also got a chance to reflect on the terrible floods that swept through Wimberley ten years ago. Out of this unfathomable devastation, our community came together, with neighbors helping neighbors and strangers helping strangers. It was also the birth of your all-local, volunteer-supported Wimberley Valley Radio.
Memorial Day is often called the unofficial start of summer -- a time when flags flutter on porches, the scent of backyard barbecue fills the air, and gatherings with loved ones for a long weekend.
But amid the celebration, it's important to remember the true purpose of the day: honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, at home and far away. Please take a moment today to reflect and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can remain free.
Texan Baseball in State Semifinals, Academic UIL Ends Strong

Just incredible. Our Wimberley Texan baseball team is headed to the state semifinals for the FIRST TIME EVER, after sweeping Sinton in two games in the Region IV finals. Next up: Bridge City on Saturday, May 31. If they win that series, these boys are playing for the state title -- amazing!
Meanwhile, the Wimberley Academic UIL competitors placed 11th overall in Texas. Collectively, in the speech events, the team scored enough points to finish 2nd in the speech team category.
Way to close out the year, Texans!
Blue Hole Nature Center Plan Advances

The Wimberley City Council has taken a major step toward developing the Blue Hole Nature Center by unanimously selecting Lake Flato and Lionheart to lead the project’s design and management.
The center is a new city initiative aimed at becoming a regional hub for environmental education in the Texas Hill Country. Planned as a One Water facility, it will include interactive classrooms, a sustainable greenhouse, nature-based exhibits, and restored prairie and wetland ecosystems. It will also serve as an expansion of the city’s popular Nature Camp, providing year-round programs for local families, schools, and organizations.
The project received $3 million through the Hays County Parks and Open Space Bond. The city is now seeking additional grant funding, and contract negotiations with the selected firms are the next step.
Let's Salute Our Veteran of the Week

KWVH and VFW Post 6441 salute Petty Officer Third Class Anthony DiMillo for his dedicated service in the United States Navy from 1989 to 1997. As a Boatswain’s Mate and Master Helmsman, he played a vital role in naval operations across the globe. His commitment to excellence and leadership on the seas reflect the highest traditions of military service.
Today, Anthony continues to serve his community as the Adjutant of VFW Post 6441. He is also a successful entrepreneur, owning both an auto shop and a gun shop in two states. His continued dedication to veterans and local communities exemplifies the enduring spirit of service.
