KWVH Derby Party A Huge Success!

The KWVH Wimberley Valley Radio Kentucky Derby Party presented by Ozona Bank delivered an unforgettable afternoon of celebration, bringing together friends, neighbors, and supporters for one of the station’s most anticipated events of the year. As KWVH’s largest annual fundraiser, the Derby Party plays a vital role in sustaining the community-powered programming that keeps local radio vibrant, relevant, and accessible across the Wimberley Valley.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, the dedication of volunteers, and the enthusiasm of attendees, this year’s event was a resounding success. Every ticket purchased and every contribution made directly supports KWVH’s mission to inform, connect, and serve the community with hyper-local news, emergency information, and hometown storytelling.

The station’s continued strength is a reflection of the people it serves, and this year’s Derby Party was a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together with purpose and pride. KWVH extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who played a part in making the event such a success—and looks forward to building on that momentum in the year ahead.

Mark your calendars now: the celebration returns on Saturday, May 1, 2027!

Texans Continue Postseason Magic

Those Wimberley Texans keep on winning. The baseball team swept Manor New Tech to become bi-district champions. They'll face the Navarro Panthers in a three-game series beginning Wednesday at home.

The Lady Texan softball team are area champs, after beating Devine in dramatic fashion. They scored a whopping 11 runs in the seventh inning to beat the Warhorses. Up next are the Columbia Roughnecks.

In track & field, the girls won the regional meet, with multiple athletes advancing to the state competition.

Let's finish the year strong, Texans!!

Free Emergency Preparedness

Training Classes

Wimberley Valley residents have a valuable opportunity to build practical skills and strengthen community readiness. The Hays County Department of Emergency Services is offering a free monthly Emergency Preparedness Training Series at The Barnabas Connection (101 West Spoke Hollow Rd.), beginning May 5 and continuing on the first Tuesday of each month through March 2027 from 4:30 to 8pm. Sign up here.

Each session covers topics like emergency preparedness, first aid, fire safety, search and rescue, and disaster response, offering the same core instruction used for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certification. Participants are welcome to attend at their own pace with no obligation to complete the full certification.

The training is open to all, and is designed to be both practical and approachable. Tacos (yes, tacos!) will be provided, and attendees will have the chance to connect with neighbors while gaining skills that can make a real difference in an emergency.

A Simple Step Toward Emergency Readiness

The State of Texas offers a valuable tool to help communities better prepare for emergencies: the STEAR Program (State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry). This free, voluntary registry lets residents share important information about their needs with local emergency planners and responders. Communities across Texas can use this information in different ways to support planning, communication, and response efforts.

The program is especially important for individuals who may need additional assistance, including people with disabilities or anyone with access and functional needs. By registering, individuals can help ensure that responders are aware of potential needs in advance.

It’s important to note that enrolling in the STEAR Program does not guarantee specific services during an emergency, as resources and response capabilities vary by community. To learn more about the program or to sign up, visit the STEAR website.
