Aquatics Feasibility Study Results -- This Wednesday.
The City of Wimberley and its consultant, Kimley-Horn, will present the findings of a potential community aquatics center this Wednesday, September 9 at the Community Center.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the study, ask questions, and share input regarding the future of aquatic facilities and services in Wimberley. The findings were compiled from a community survey that was published last spring.
According to the Parks and Recreation department, the survey will help judge potential demand, possible locations, types of pools or aquatic features, and estimated costs for construction and maintenance.
The City is still in a fact-finding phase and no decisions have been made.
West Nile Detected in Wimberley Valley
Hays County officials say a mosquito sample collected in the Wimberley Valley on September 1 has tested positive for West Nile Virus. It's the ninth WNV-positive mosquito that's been detected this season.
Most people infected with West Nile Virus do not develop symptoms, but some may experience fever, headache, body aches, rash or other flu-like symptoms, with adults over 50 and people with weakened immune systems at greater risk of severe illness.
County officials are urging residents to follow the “Three Ds” of mosquito prevention: DEFEND with EPA-approved insect repellent, DRESS in long and loose-fitting clothing, and DRAIN standing water where mosquitoes can breed. Residents can learn more about mosquito surveillance through Hays County Development Services.
Texan Football 1-0, Hits the Road.
The Texans are 1-0, after taking it to the Fredericksburg Billies on Friday, 28-3. They hit the road this week, traveling to Long Creek High in New Braunfels.
Meanwhile, the Texan volleyball team heads to Marble Falls tomorrow after tallying its fourth straight win over the Bowie Bulldogs. They're 28-3 on the season.

Hays County Emergency Preparedness Fair this Saturday in Kyle.
The Hays County Office of Emergency Services is hosting the 9th annual Emergency Preparedness Fair tthis Saturday at La Verde Park in Kyle from 9:30am to 2pm.
The event features emergency preparedness demonstrations, first responders and emergency vehicles, local vendors, children’s activities, food trucks, live music, a silent auction, raffle, and more. Entry is free.
Aattendees can participate in an extensive silent auction and raffle. Chili afficionados will compete in the Top Dawg Chili Cookoff, benefiting the Hays County Fire Chief's Association. Tickets to sample and vote on your favorite chili are $15. For more information, visit the website.
VFW Post 6441 and KWVH Salute Our Veteran of the Week
VFW Post 6441 and KWVH salute Navy Corpsman Rodger Parker, a Vietnam veteran whose service and commitment to community continue to make a difference.
Rodger enlisted in the Navy in 1966 and became a medical corpsman. In July 1968, he deployed to Vietnam with the Marines. Severely wounded in a mortar attack, Rodger spent three months recovering before returning to Vietnam, where he served with the 1st Marine Division south of Da Nang until July 1969.
After leaving the Navy in 1970, Rodger spent 11 years as an IRS Revenue Officer before becoming an Enrolled Agent, representing taxpayers before the IRS.
A Wimberley resident and member of VFW Post 6441 since 1995, Rodger
helped design the Veterans Memorial Plaza on FM 2325. In 2022, he founded the Wimberley Valley Rangers, dedicated to disaster preparedness and helping the community in times of need.
Thank you, Rodger Parker, for your service, sacrifice, and continuing commitment to Wimberley.
