Texans Make Bid to Repeat as State Champs

The Wimberley Texan volleyball squad has a chance to win the state championship for the second year in a row -- this Friday.
They swept Salado in the semifinals over the weekend to advance to the 4A-11 championship match, to be held this Friday evening in Garland. They'll face the Fort Worth Eagle Mountain Knights, who come into the match with a 37-11 record.
Of course, KWVH will have live coverage beginning at 3pm with a special edition of the Texan Tailgate live from Buffalo Wild Wings in Garland. Pregame starts at 5:30pm, and first serve is at 6pm.
Last week, Wimberley ISD sent notice that there would be an early dismissal on Friday if the Lady Texans advanced to the state championship game. At the time of publication, details were not available; visit WISD's website or check your email for updates.
Meanwhile, gridiron playoff action continues on Thursday night, with the Texans facing off against the Robstown Cotton Pickers at 7pm at Beeville High School for the area championship. Last Friday, the Texans demolished Carrizo Springs, 59-0.
Football coverage begins at 630pm, with kickoff at 7pm, right here on KWVH.
GO TEXANS!!!
Celebrate Thanksgiving, Wimberley Style

The holiday season is upon us, and nothing says Thanksgiving quite like the 35th annual Wimberley Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Tables are set for next Thursday, November 27 from 11am to 2pm at the Community Center.
You can either dine-in, carry-out, or place a delivery order and have meals brought to your door... any way you choose, the MEALS ARE COMPLETELY FREE.
It's also a great way to volunteer -- to help serve, set up, clean up, or deliver meals -- register here. For meal delivery, please call 512-847-7882. Ozona Bank is also accepting donations to offset costs.
On Thanksgiving Day at noon, Wimberley Valley Radio will air its traditional broadcast of "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie -- all 18 minutes and 34 seconds of it.
And fear not: the KWVH Holiday Music Mix is back! We'll play all Christmas music on November 28 from 7am until noon to get you in the festive spirit.
"Hometown Holidays" Events Planned Through New Years

Some highlights include the Wishes for Wimberley Parade and Tree Lighting on Saturday, November 29, beginning at 6pm. Before that, head up the hill to watch the EmilyAnn Trail of Lights Tree Lighting at 5pm.
The fun goes through New Years... with Wimberley's FIRST annual New Years Eve Party on December 31, and the always-popular Polar Bear Plunge and 5K at Blue Hole.
It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Salute Our Veteran of the Week

VFW Post 6441 and KWVH salute Specialist 4 Lawrence Edward Hunter, United States Army, as our veteran of the week! From 1968 to 1970, Specialist Hunter served as a Com Center Specialist and Teletype Operator in Georgia and Vietnam — always stepping up to do whatever was needed, including flying thousands of miles in helicopters on resupply and rescue missions.
In one unforgettable act of courage, he saved the life of a fellow soldier who had accidentally set himself afire.
After his Army service, this lifelong musician continued to serve through music — performing with the USO from 1980 to 1983, entertaining troops across the West Coast and the Caribbean. On July 4th, 1983, he proudly sang the National Anthem for service members at Guantanamo Bay.
Now retired in Wimberley, Lawrence Hunter continues to share his love of music with the community he calls home.
