Voter Registration Deadline is TODAY.

An important deadline is TODAY.

It's the last day to register to vote – or update your name or address – for the midterm election is October 5. The Wimberley Village Library has plenty of mail-in application cards available at both the circulation and reference desks. Or if you're unable to get out, contact info@lwvhaysco.org to have deputized voter registrars bring voter registration to your location.

Early voting for the midterms starts Monday, October 19 and ends Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Early voting in Wimberley will be at the Community Center and the Texan Academy at Scudder Primary.

It's our civic duty!

Texan Action Heats Up

The Texan volleyball team is looking for redemption tomorrow night at Canyon Lake. They were swept by Davenport on Friday, 3-0, but their record remains an impressive 46-6. Listen to the Texan-Hawks match live on KWVH -- tip is at 6pm.

After a week off, the gridiron action heats up with the Texan's first game against a new district opponent -- the Giddings Buffaloes -- in their house. As always, tune in to the Texan Tailgate on Friday at 4:00pm, with pregame at 7:00 and kickoff at 7:30.

And last but not least, the juggernaut that is Texan tennis has secured another district championship and is headed back to the postseason. The defending Class 4A state champions will open the bi-district playoffs against Belton New Tech on Monday, October 5. Wimberley is coming off a 2025 season in which the Texans captured their third state team-tennis championship in five years.

Water Wise Workshop This Thursday.

Interested in replacing traditional lawn areas with hardy, water-stingy native plants? Get hands-on guidance at a the Water Wise Growing Native workshop on Thursday, October 8, from 11am to 12:30pm at the Wimberley Library’s Pearl Hughes Room.

Hosted by Salwa Khan of the podcast and KWVH show Mothering Earth, the workshop is designed for people who want to make a gradual, practical transition from turfgrass to a more water-conscious native landscape. Rather than tackling an entire yard at once, participants will be encouraged to begin with one manageable area, get it established, and then expand the project over time.

The program will cover topics including soil, native plant selection and water use, while helping participants develop an actual plan for transforming their own property. The goal is to move from ideas on paper to real changes in the garden, with participants able to track their progress over what may become a multi-year project.

Registration is required. Participants will be asked to download and complete a questionnaire intended to help them think through their landscape goals before the workshop. Participants should bring the completed form, a map of their yard and a notebook to the session.

VFW Post 6441 and KWVH Salute Our Veteran of the Week

VFW Post 6441 and KWVH salute U.S. Air Force Sergeant Mike Aillet. Sergeant Aillet served as an Air Force pararescueman, one of the military’s most demanding and specialized assignments, akin to Navy SEALs and Army Green Berets.

Pararescuemen are trained to go where others cannot—into combat zones and other dangerous environments—to locate, rescue, and provide lifesaving medical care to injured personnel, often under extremely difficult conditions whether at sea or on land.

Mike served five years in Vietnam, Thailand, and Maine, putting those skills and his

courage to work in service to others. His extraordinary service was recognized with two Distinguished Flying Crosses and eight Air Medals.

After leaving the Air Force, Mike began a civilian career as a pipefitter in Houston. Today, he is retired and a valued member of the Wimberley community, remaining

active with the Hill Top Place Road Committee and Wimberley VFW Post 6441, where you can find him working Friday night bingo and the annual rodeo.

For his courageous military service and his continuing service to his community, we salute Air Force Sergeant Mike Aillet!
