Keeping the Valley Connected

Barnabas Back-To-School Fiesta This Saturday!
The Barnabas Connection will host its 20th Annual Back-to-School Fiesta this Saturday 8:30am to 4pm. The annual event helps approximately 500 students living within Wimberley ISD boundaries start the new school year prepared and excited to learn by providing backpacks, grade-specific school supplies and access to other community resources.
Barnabas is once again inviting the community to help by volunteering, making a monetary contribution or donating needed school supplies. In-kind donations can also be purchased through the organization’s Amazon Wishlist.
Families seeking assistance can find information through the Barnabas Connection, and those interested in supporting the program can visit the website or contact the Back-to-School Team at backtoschool@barnabasconnects.org.
The Fiesta is one more way the Wimberley Valley comes together to make sure local students have what they need for a successful start to the school year.

Water Wise Series Resumes in August.
The highly-acclaimed Water Wise series is starting back up this Saturday, with a new series of events brought to you by Salwa Khan of the Mothering Earth podcast/radio program. Water Wise is a way to learn about what’s happening with water, and ways in which you can conserve and protect our region’s water.
The first installment is on Saturday from 10:30am to 2pm at the library. The seminar is entitled, "Convert Turf Grass Yards to a Native Plant Haven." Learn how to turn your yard into native plantings, with guidance on soil health, simple rain barrel setup, and native plants that thrive in the Hill Country. Speakers from RainBees, Hays County Master Naturalists, Hays County Master Gardeners, and the Native Plant Society of Texas will help attendees begin a multi-year garden plan, with expert advice and free plants available.
Registration is required, so click here to reserve your spot. Other seminars are scheduled for September 12 and 26.

Texans Take the Breazeale Cup!
School isn't even in session yet, and the Wimberley Texans are still scoring! They took first place in the Breazeale Cup, a ranking of all high school athletic programs in Central Texas, as surveyed by the Austin American-Statesman. Schools accrue points based on their programs' performances throughout the school year.
The Texans took top honors, with 95 points. That's thanks to amazing finishes in girls soccer, volleyball, team tennis, baseball, boys basketball, softball, football, girls cross country, boys soccer, and girls basketball.
Second place went to Westlake (you might've heard of them) and number three was Vandegrift, who placed first the year prior.
Congrats to last year's teams, and let's keep the winning ways going this year!
